Ketchikan Theatre Ballet (KTB) is seeking an instructor for our upper-level ballet (V-IX) and pointe (pre/beginning, intermediate, and advanced) classes, consisting of children ages 10-18. Our school is upbeat, energetic, and encouraging, with a great existing collaboration among the staff. We are looking to add an instructor who excels at bringing the best out of their students in positive and uplifting ways.

KTB has been providing quality dance instruction in the community of Ketchikan for over 60 years. Dance opportunities include ballet, tap, and jazz, for students ranging from infancy through adulthood. Our mission is to foster each student's creativity and talents while developing a strong sense of confidence and self-discipline. Our Core Values are Discipline, Strength, Partnership, and Respect.

Must be able to relocate to Ketchikan, Alaska.

Summary of Duties: Teach ballet and pointe classes. This is a non-exempt position and is therefore eligible for overtime compensation.

Responsibilities: Teach ballet and pointe classes according to the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet Curricula. Keep records on students regarding absences, tardies, preparedness, ability, and attitude. Choreograph as necessary, for 3-4 annual performances.

Supervision: Reports to the Board of Directors.

Specific Duties:
Teach upper level ballet and pointe classes according to the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet Curricula, to students of ages 10-18.

Work with and according to the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet Student Handbook and Policy Manual and the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet Personnel Policies and Guidelines Handbook.

Choreograph for and/or assist with School and Company productions. This may include, but is not limited to, assisting in providing advanced rehearsal schedules, searching for and editing music and costumes, assisting with costumes, sets, props, and lighting.

- Collaborate with other KTB Staff.
- Attend Staff Meetings.
- Substitute teach, when possible, for absent instructors.
- Complete student evaluations biannually.
- Provide information on and assist in placement of students in appropriate class levels during the year.
- Meet the needs of the community by providing lecture demonstrations and performances to local service organizations.
- Provide accurate records regarding attendance, injuries, meetings with parents and concerns of any nature.
- Assist with initial registration and placement of new students.
- Make recommendations to the Board of Directors, KTB Staff, parents, and students regarding appropriate additional learning experiences outside of KTB.
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude at all times.
- Wear proper dance attire in accordance with the class being taught.
- Perform other tasks as determined by the Board of Directors.

Job Conditions:
Instruction and rehearsals will occur in the afterschool hours, and on Saturdays. Incumbent will be required to work on days other than their regularly scheduled work days during registration, performance preparation, rehearsals, and performance, and extended hours will be required at the KTB studio during rehearsal and/or at the performance sites. Incumbent must be present at least one hour before scheduled class time. The instruction rate listed on this advertisement will be paid for all scheduled classes and rehearsals, and a prep-rate (to be determined at the time of hire) will be paid for all preparatory work and during performances. Incumbent will be given two (2) days off per week; however, Ketchikan Theatre Ballet cannot guarantee that they will be consecutive days. Summers will also be considered off, with the exception of any scheduled workshops or summer classes, as determined by the KTB Staff and the Board of Directors.

External Contacts:
Frequent opportunity and requirements to interact with parents, students, and community members. Instructor must always remain professional and positively represent KTB.

Education/Licenses:
Minimum of a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Dance or equivalent, and extensive ballet background. Experience in lieu of education may be considered.

Experience/Skills: Specific experience and skills preferred include:
• Extensive training and teaching experience in ballet and pointe.
• Dance performance production experience, with children ages 4-18 participating
• Supervision and delegation skills
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Organizational and follow-through skills
• Skills in mediating and resolving conflict situations
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Ability to work with a wide variety of people

Choreograph for and produce The Nutcracker, including outreaching for and securing a male dancer to perform as the Cavalier. Choreograph two pieces to be performed by students at An Evening of Dance in February 2024.
Choreograph as required for The Nutcracker, as well as 2 additional pieces to be set on the Junior and Senior Company, and performed at the February production of An Evening of Dance. Produce The Nutcracker, to include casting, scheduling, and leading rehearsals, staging, lighting, and any other related duties as required.

Supervision: Reports to the Board of Directors.
